Re Castle -- it is clear he did not read Marozzo for instance, was his certification Italian (I believe it was) or French(?). I do suspect he was secretly conveying 19th century fencing, and may be merely repeating the canards of others of that time. Although it does seem there were lively disagreements among Castle, Gelli and Merginac, and likely others.
